Bet your dollar on Rand Girls

JOBURG - The team's coach, Mdu Mthethwa, said they used the tournament to prepare for an upcoming soccer tour to East London.

The Rand Girls’ soccer team participated in the Janine van Wyk pre-season soccer tournament in Bedfordview.

The team was knocked out in the semi-finals after winning three matches and drawing one on the way. The team’s coach, Mdu Mthethwa, said they used the tournament to prepare for an upcoming soccer tour to East London.

“The team will be representing the school at the Umbro South African school’s soccer tournament from 2 until 6 July,” said Mthethwa.

He added that even though his team lost, he was happy that he was able to assess his players and identify where they needed to improve ahead of the tour.

“The team together with a group of dedicated parents worked tirelessly from the beginning of the year to ensure that enough funds were raised to give these girls an opportunity to represent their school in a tournament out of this province. “They went around knocking on many doors for sponsorship and they appreciate the generosity of those who sponsored.”

Mthethwa was confident that the girls would represent the school well.
