Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court sentences convict to five years behind bars for possession of unlicensed firearm

JOBURG – Convict sentenced to five years imprisonment for possession of unlicensed firearm.

 

Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court sentenced Bongani Mbatha to five years imprisonment for the possession of an unlicensed firearm on 6 June.

Mbatha was arrested at Denver Men’s Hostel on 16 April last year by the Johannesburg Flying Squad.

According to the spokesperson for Cleveland Police Station, Captain Johan Jordaan, police officials received a tip-off from the community.

“Police proceeded to the given address. Upon arrival, they found the convict with a 222 Rem Brno rifle in his possession,” said Jordaan.

The convict was arrested and detained at the police station.
