JOBURG -- Ward 118 needs more police vehicles in order to fight crime.

Ward 118 councillor Neuren Pietersen has started a petition for additional South African Police Service (SAPS) vehicles in his ward.

Pietersen said he started the petition due to a rise in crime in the area.

“The question put by the DA Shadow MEC on Health in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, Jack Bloom, and the answer received clearly illustrated that the allocation of vehicles and staff to the Jeppe and Cleveland police stations are both inadequate and not distributed in line with need,” he said. Pietersen is appealing to residents to sign the petition to help fight the scourge of crime threatening his ward.

Meanwhile, Bloom said he supports the petition and commended Pietersen for starting it. “People want to see visible policing to prevent crime,” said Bloom.
