Threats don’t stop Pastor Enoch Phiri

JOBURG – Since airing his views on the subject, the pastor claimed he had received threatening emails and phone calls.

Pastor Enoch Phiri preaches the gospel to church goers and the general public but has now become a victim of threats.

Phiri is well known for his exciting sermons at Restoration House Church in Soweto and his helping hand across the greater Johannesburg area, but more so for his television shows on One Gospel and TBN.

On his TV show, he has been open about the issue of land restitution, vocalising his belief that the challenges facing South Africans today are due to the fact that land and economic transformation was not properly managed by the government.

Since airing his views on the subject, the pastor claimed he had received threatening emails and phone calls, including death threats, from anonymous people claiming that he had no authority to speak on the matter

“I started receiving emails and calls from unknown, random people threatening to run campaigns to [take my show off] air on TBN and One Gospel channel,” Phiri said.

“I am not intimidated with these emails that keep on flooding into my inbox because God is my protector.”

Wayne Minnaar, spokesperson for the Metro police, offered advice to people who have received threats in any form.

“The best thing is to go to the nearest police station so the police can be aware of what is happening,” he said. “Give them as much information as possible. A case can be opened depending on how much information can be given to the police. Go to the police station as soon as possible.”

Phiri, however, feels that police action is not necessary.

“I am not going to lay criminal charges against the people who are intimidating me because I don’t know them in person,” he said.
