Pretty is now in Grade 1 at Denver Primary School thanks to a helpful social worker

JOBURG – A seven-year-old girl's dreams of going to school comes true.

Pretty Mangwane, a seven-year-old girl from Jumpers informal settlement who was unable to go to school as she did not have a birth certificate, has started school at Denver Primary School.

Her mother, Khungeka, left her with her father in 2010 after she allegedly went gambling and never returned home.

Pretty Mangwane.

Mangwane’s guardian, Elisabeth Noosi, said she is very happy that Pretty has started school.

“I am very relieved. She now wakes up in the morning and goes to school like other children,” said Noosi.

Noosi said Pretty was helped by a social worker who explained Pretty’s situation to the school principal.

The seven-year-old said she would like to become a social worker one day. “The social worker helped me. I would also like to help other children,” Pretty said.

Anyone who is willing to assist Pretty to get a birth certificate can contact Nomphelo Zozo.
