Enjoy enthralling flamenco dance for one night only in Johannesburg

JOBURG – Fiery Spanish flamenco heats up Johannesburg this month.

The internationally acclaimed Las Minas Puerto Flamenco is in Johannesburg for one performance only on 24 May.

Las Minas Puerto Flamenco, presented by the Las Minas Flamenco Tour, the international branch and promoter of the festival del Cante de Las Minas, started in 2013 as an initiative of ‘internationalisation’ to bring flamenco to five continents.

Flamenco dance is strict, professionalised folkloric dance not set to music, but clapping and feet stomping.

The show is a unique, non-stop musical show filled with sensitivity and imagery that tells the story of flamenco – a journey through the history of flamenco that has passed through the ports of Spain and interacted with the music from the ports of the world.

With 11 artists – dancers, singers and musicians – interacting onstage with guitar accompaniment, percussion, flamenco flute, the saxophone and the cajón box, this is not the usual run-of-the-mill flamenco show; it is a production where all facets of flamenco can be enjoyed.

The artists, each a star in their own right, show the talents that made them the worthy recipients of the award they won in the legendary Cante de Las Minas festival.

The production features flamenco dancers Yolanda Osuna, Amador Rojas and Eduardo Guerrero; flamenco singers Gema Jiménez, Manuel Soto, Bernardo Miranda and José Tomás Jiménez, with Javier Ibáñez on guitar, Manuel Óscar on the Flemish flute, Juan Diego Sáez on the Flemish saxophone and Lolo Plantón, a leading percussionist in the flamenco world, as a sit-in on percussion.

To date, this group of artists has toured 30 port cities in Spain and many cities of the world with this acclaimed port flamenco show. Costume design is by Francis Montesinos and Ángel Rojas is the artistic director.

Las Minas Puerto Flamenco is a show that will bring the power, passion and the virtuosity of the art of flamenco to Johannesburg; a vibrant show full of energy and excitement which can only be seen at the Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg on 24 May – and groups larger than 10 will receive 50 per cent off their tickets.
