Tea and Biscuit Affair launches in Kensington

KENSINGTON – "Tea and Biscuit aims to inspire women.

A women’s support group, Tea and Biscuit Affair, was launched in Kensington on 25 March. The group is all about young women creating a platform where they can come together and share life’s burdens.

“As women, we don’t support each other and we all face the same life problems or even worse than the other women. With this group, we want to inspire each other and look for ways to help one another,” explained Natasha Makhathini, the founder of the Tea and Biscuit Affair.

Makhathini said she loves all things sweet and, after having a cup of tea, she always feels better and that is how Tea and Biscuit Affair came about. She said the group aims at creating an environment or space that allows women not to feel they need to be perfect but feel empowered after sharing that pot of tea together.

“We aim [to be] a group that can help people share their views, knowledge about life and experiences on a platform that allows the women to feel at home without having insecurities that pop out all the time,” said Makhathini.

The topic of discussion for the day was, Knowing what you know now, what would you tell your younger self?

The group will be meeting twice a month to tackle different woman-related topics, and professionals will be invited to address the young ladies and also encourage them to pursue their dreams. “We hope young ladies will be inspired and gain confidence through these meetings. We want to help them cope with everyday challenges and tell stories that will change lives,” said Gugu Mdlalose, Tea and Biscuit Affair spokesperson. She said she would like to see more young women coming to the meetings, and those interested can contact them.

“We would like to thank our sponsor for the support and the team for working hard to make sure the launch was a success,” concluded Mdlalose.
