Assumption Convent School in Germiston takes home gold in South African Schools Rowing Championship regatta

GERMISTON – The U14 team was ranked third in the country and the U15 team was ranked first overall – the first time in the school's history.

 

Thirty-six girls of Assumption Convent School took part in the South African Schools Rowing Championship regatta.

According to the school’s marketing manager, Marinella Sousa, all rowing schools and clubs in the country take part in this event as well as a number of schools from Zimbabwe.

“There were 1 300 athletes entered into the three-day regatta of which Assumption had 36 girls entered,” said Sousa.

Some of the most notable results achieved by Assumption Convent School were as follows:

  • Courtney Westley won gold and is now the U15 Scull South Africa Champion
  • Westley and Tannith Johnson both won silver in the U15 double section
  • The U15 quad won gold
  • The U14 team was ranked third in the country and the U15 team was ranked first overall – the first time in the school’s history.
