Quick response gets arrest

JOBURG - Jeppe police react quickly to a hijacking.

Jeppe police arrested a 24-year-old man for hijacking in Jeppestown on 15 October.

This comes after police received information via radio that a Kia Rio car was hijacked in Jeppestown and was seen heading towards Jeppe hostel.

Jeppe Police Station spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai explained, “While the police were driving around, they spotted the car on Wolhuter Street and stopped it. The two occupants were instructed to lie down but one of them managed to run away and the police arrested the suspect who was driving the car.”

The suspect was detained at Jeppe Police Station. He was charged with possession of a hijacked motor vehicle. He will appear in court soon, while investigations continue.

“The investigations will determine if the suspect could be linked to other hijackings which have taken place in the area,” said Munyai.
