107 Arrest in one week

Joburg East Police Cluster have arrested more than one hundred suspects in a period of one week.

The Joburg East police have arrested 107 suspects from 29 September to 5 October.

They were arrested for committing crimes ranging from rape, armed robbery and business robbery to theft.

The Joburg East Cluster in made up of seven police stations, namely Cleveland, Jeppe, Hillbrow, Rosebank, Parkview, Norwood and Yeoville.

The suspects were arrested for the following:

  • 2 for armed robbery
  • 4 for common robbery
  • 12 for common assault
  • 16 for assault with grievous bodily harm
  • 15 for theft
  • 2 for theft of copper
  • 9 for possession of drugs
  • 5 for malicious damage to property
  • 5 for business robbery
  • 2 for theft of a motor vehicle
  • 2 for fraud
  • 1 for pointing a firearm
  • 6 for possession of suspected stolen goods
  • 1 for housebreaking and theft
  • 1 for reckless driving
  • 2 for rape
  • 1 for a sexual offence
  • 4 for bribery
  • 5 for armed robbery
  • 3 for possession of a hijacked motor vehicle
  • 2 for drunk driving
  • 2 for house robbery
  • 1 for kidnapping
  • 2 for theft out of a motor vehicle
  • 1 for possession of a dangerous weapon
  • 1 for dealing in liquor without a licence.

“The suspects have appeared in different courts such as the Hillbrow, Jeppe and Johannesburg courts. Some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remained in prison,” said Jeppe Police Station spokesperson, Captain Richard Munyai.
