Armed suspect nabbed in Yeoville

A man was arrested in Yeoville for possession of unlicensed firearm

A man was arrested in Yeoville for possession of a stolen motor vehicle and an unlicensed firearm following a high-speed police chase on June 20.

“Police officers noticed that the occupants of a BMW X5 were acting suspiciously in Bruma,” said Yeoville SAPS spokesperson Constable Thabo Malatji.

When officer tried to stop the vehicle the occupants sped off and a high-speed chase ensued.

Eventually the suspects drove into a dead-end road and were forced to stop.

“The two men exited the vehicle and tried to escape on foot,” Const Malatji said.

One of the men was caught. He was searched and a firearm was found.

“Officers found a second firearm in the vehicle. The serial numbers of both the firearms were filed off,” said Const Malatji.

The vehicle was also reported as hijacked in the Booysens area.

The suspect was detained and is expected to appear in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
