Councillor concerned about power outages

The ward 66 councillor, Clr Carllos da Rocha is concerned about the power cuts in some parts of Kensington area.

City power is still a major problem for most residents in the Kensington and Bez Valley areas and various reports suggest that cable theft may be the reason for the constant power outages.

The ward 66 councillor, Clr Carllos da Rocha is concerned about the power cuts in some parts of the Kensington area.

By Thursday, the area was without electricity for two days. “But City Power insists that technicians are attending to the matter. People who steal cables affect the large amount of people in Kensington and Bez Valley,” said Clr Da Rocha.

“City Power works throughout – day and night – to try to restore it but it seems like they are not doing enough by just trying to fix it. We are talking about old infrastructure here. It is time we start doing block by block replacement of the old infrastructure with the new one because the system is getting old.

“I have experienced it for five years as a councillor that every year this time of the year it gets worse. People buy more heating appliances like heaters and the cables cannot handle the pressure because they are old,” said Clr da Rocha.

The EXPRESS sent an inquiry to City Power with a request for comment by June 10. No comment has been received.
