Jeppe boys shine at Wynberg Rugby Festival

Hacjivah received the Player of the Festival award and he said it came as a surprise to him as he was not expecting the acknowledgement.

Jeppe High School for Boys continues to make history in schoolboy rugby.

Three of Jeppe’s rugby stars were selected for the 2016 Standard Bank Wynberg 175 Rugby Festival Dream Team.

They are grade 12 pupils, Wandisile Simelane, Hacjiva Dyamani and Teboho Ramodibe.

Hacjivah received the Player of the Festival award and he said it came as a surprise to him as he was not expecting the acknowledgement.

“I did not expect it because I only played one game. I couldn’t believe it, it felt like a dream and it proved to me that hard work does pay off,” said Hacjivah.

Wandisile was named festival backline player.

“It came as a surprise but I was really happy and thankful about it. It encouraged me to improve more on my game,” said Wandisile.

Teboho is also proud of himself and humbled that he made the dream team.

“I feel blessed because it’s the first time I achieved something like this. I was not expecting it,” said Teboho.

The boys remain humble even with such an achievement.

They all say balancing matric and still playing rugby has not been easy, but with the support of the coach and teachers, they have been able to achieve their goals.

Wandisle and Hacjivah were also selected for the South African schools rugby team and the rugby sevens squad in 2015, which competed in the Commonwealth Games.

The last Jeppe Boy to be selected for the SA schools team was 1995 Rugby World Cup Champion James Dalton.
