Arson investigated after family’s car is torched

The husband was woken up by his children telling him the car was on fire.

The Cleveland SAPS is investigating a case of arson after a Malvern family woke up to find their car burning on Thursday, November 12, shortly after 1am.

The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the husband was woken up by his children telling him the car was on fire.

The car was parked next to the family’s house in Raymas Street.

“A container, believed to have been used to pour petrol, was found next to the burnt car. The family was able to extinguish the fire, although half the car was already burnt,” said Const Mashakane.
