Armed robber gets 21-year prison sentence

The sentence was handed down by the Johannesburg High Court.

Mzweleni Ntshangase (34) was sentenced to 21 years in prison for armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The sentence was handed down by the Johannesburg High Court.

The Jeppe SAPS communications officer, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, said on February 26, 2013, Ntshangase and his three friends cornered and robbed two men along Gous Street in Jeppestown.

“The victim and his passenger were transporting money from a friend’s shop when an Audi overtook them and stopped in front of their car. Four armed men jumped out of the car and demanded money from the victims. They took a bag with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspects also took money from a passenger in the vehicle. As they were committing the crime, police officers who were passing by approached them. The men jumped into their car and fled the scene,” said W/O Munyayi.

He said Ntshangase was arrested a few days after the incident.
