One suspect died and one woman was injured during a shootout with security officers during a business robbery at the corner of Rocky and Sherwell streets in Jeppestown at about 5pm today.
Hillbrow SAPS Cluster communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji said five men held staff and customers at gun point.
“An alarm went off and a security officer responded. Security officers arrived at the scene as the men were leaving. A shootout ensued. One suspect was later certified dead at the scene while a female customer was rushed to hospital in serious condition. One suspect was arrested at the scene. Three of them fled in a silver Toyota Quantum,” said Const Malatji.
He said when the men saw JMPD officers were closing in on them, two tried to flee on foot but were arrested. One escaped in the Toyota.
