Wounded suspect dies

More arrest from Jeppe shooting are imminent.

One of the suspects involved in the killing of a Cleveland warrant officer on Saturday has reportedly died in hospital.

Warrant Officer Sibusiso Ndlovu and his colleague were responding to a business robbery next to the Jeppe Hostel shortly after 5am when a shootout between the SAPS and the suspects ensued.

The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mashakane, said W/O Ndlovu and his colleague were patrolling in the Cleveland SAPS precinct together with officers from the Jeppe SAPS when the call of a business robbery in progress came through.

“They all attended to the scene. As they arrived, the suspects opened fire. Our officer was hit twice on the neck. He was rushed to hospital where he was certified dead on arrival,” she said.

Const Mashakane said the suspects managed to escape.

A task team was to assigned to follow up the case.

Const Mashakane could not confirm reports that one of the suspects, who was injured during the shootout and was taken to hospital, had died.

A source close to the investigation said one suspect died and that more arrests are imminent.
