Community to march against drugs

Community is called to match against match.

The Moris Friedman Recreation Centre will hold a drug awareness march this Sunday.

Mr Lovemore Mncube, from the centre, said this is to highlight the drug problem.

“This scourge is killing our community. In our community, you find 10 to 15-year-old children who no longer go to school because of drug use. It also leads to children committing crime. They rob people when they either go to, or return from, work. We need to stand together and fight drugs in our communities,” he said.

He said fighting drugs may address other illnesses in the community.

“These addicts resort to crime to feed their cravings. That is why we are calling all those who are affected by, or addicted to, drugs to the day. Let us help each other in the fight against drugs,” said Mr Mncube.

He said there will be diabetic and blood pressure testing on the day.

“We will have a health expo. We will have professional nutritionists giving professional advice about food. There will also be people testing for chronic illnesses like blood pressure and diabetes,” he said.

The community will congregate at the centre along Fuller and Moriss streets in Betrams.

Mr Ncube said people are expected to be at the centre by 9:30am for the march to start on 10am.
