Councillor meets with business owners

Taxi drivers park in the open area to wash their taxis before going to the Eastgate taxi rank to pick up passengers.

Motorists recently expressed their concerns about an illegal parking lot near the new Bruma shopping centre.

The EXPRESS reported on April 21 that the illegal parking lot is used by taxi drivers to park and wash their taxis, along Ernest Oppenheimer Avenue, next to the new Oriental City in Bruma.

Motorists said their main concern was that some taxi drivers park their taxis on the road, making it hard for motorists to pass.

The ward councillor, Clr Mike Spadino, said he would be meeting with the business owners in the area to find a way forward in resolving the issue.

Clr Spadino recently held a meeting with the management of the Garden Court and Stay Easy hotels. The main concerns raised included the taxi rank, street lights, the state of the roads and vagrants in the area.

“What came out of the meeting was, for me, to put more pressure on council to improve service delivery,” he said.

Clr Spadino was also tasked with arranging a meeting of all role players from council, residents and business associations to discuss how the area can be improved.

“I am getting all the relevant people involved. Once that happens, a date will be set for the meeting,” said Clr Spadino.

Clr Spadino said he is happy that businesses in the area are getting involved in efforts to improve the area.
