Clr Da Rocha ready for next year

As we begin the New Year, people tend to look back at what they managed to achieve in the previous year and what they would like to achieve going forward.

The EXPRESS spoke to the ward councillors to find out what their resolutions are for the New Year.

Clr Carlos da Rocha admits there were some challenges in the past year, but he is happy to see some improvements in his ward in terms of service delivery.

“I see some power lines have been upgraded, the streets are cleaner most of the time and I managed to get the Rhodes Park swimming pool repaired. I’m saddened that the pool is finished but that it has not been opened yet. I’m disappointed with that,” said Clr Da Rocha.

Clr Da Rocha also vowed to keep the Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) on its toes, as there is a lot of work that still needs to be done.

“This year, the JRA can expect my worst towards them, as they failed in keeping the promise they made to my residents and I at a recent public meeting. The promise was with regards to service delivery,” he said.

“Pikitup, with all its faults, is trying to cope. Unfortunately, they are now overwhelmed with the amount of dumping done by residents. I am sure the hard work from the entity will prevail.”

Clr Da Rocha admitted that although 2014 was his toughest year yet, 2015 will see him doing all he can to improve his ward.

“With this said, I wish all my residents a happy and safe festive season. For those who celebrate Christmas, I hope you have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year,” he said.
