Community concerned about drugs

Bezuidenhout Valley residents, living along Sixth Avenue, claim their area is infested with drug dealers.

One of the community leaders, Mrs Faradiba Morton, said residents have sent a petition to the Jeppe SAPS, regarding the situation.

“There are houses known as being drug hot-spots. When we call the police, the only thing we get is a reference number. These people are killing our children. The drug usage age has decrease in the area. We, as the parents, do not want to see our children falling victim to drugs. Nobody is hearing our cry, which is why we sent the petition,” said Mrs Morton.

She added that sometimes police officers come to the area but nobody gets arrested.

Mrs Morton said because of the drugs in the area, other crimes like muggings and house robberies have increased.

The EXPRESS sent an inquiry to the Jeppe SAPS’ communications officer, Warrant Officer Richard Monyayi, on December 10 with a request for comment by December 11 at 11am.

W/O Monyayi said he would send the inquiry to the station commander before submitting a response.

At the time of going to print, no comment has been received.
