SAPS sports, music campaign for young people

Activities at the event include a soccer tournament, where four teams will participate. There will be three teams from the community and one from Jeppe SAPS.

The Jeppe SAPS will host a youth against crime through sports and music campaign.

The event will take place on October 25 at the Hoffland Park recreation centre.

Youngsters are encouraged to become ambassadors of safety within their own communities in order for South African society to be free from all criminal activity.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, from the Jeppe SAPS, said the objectives of this campaign are to discourage young people from being involved in crime, to educate the youth about the dangers of drugs and involving themselves in criminal life. The campaign aims to strengthen the relationship between the SAPS and the community, to launch the project and have activities such as sports, drama and music to encourage good co-operation between the community’s youth and the police.

Activities at the event include a soccer tournament, where four teams will participate. There will be three teams from the community and one from Jeppe SAPS. There will also be netball, volleyball and basketball, with teams from the community and SAPS participating. There will also be live music performances from the community’s youth.

W/O Munyayi is urging businesses within the Jeppe policing forum to assist.

T-shirts with message printed on them will be needed. The event is targeting youngsters who live in Bez Valley, Betrams, Doornfontein, Jeppestown and Kensington.

The message for the event is sports and music keeps you away from crime and evil deeds.
