Diamonds taken in armed robbery

Gun-wielding men wearing balaclavas robbed a motorist of R100 000, a firearm and diamonds in Kensington on Wednesday.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said the motorist stopped the company vehicle he was driving at the Milner Crescent and Kitchener Avenue intersection.

“The traffic lights were red. The driver of a silver Mercedes Benz blocked the motorist and three suspects exited the car,” she said.

The men pointed firearms at the motorist and told him to give them a bag and the firearm in the vehicle.

They took the firearm, cash and diamonds and fled the scene.
