The event was held at the Woodlands Office Park. He competed in the Men’s U/20 age group and finished third, in a time of 30:11.
The following day he competed in the Gauteng Middle Distance Orienteering Champs held at the Big Red Barn in Irene. He finished fourth in the Men’s U/20 category, with a time of 40:18.
The event took place in a eucalyptus forest and covered 3.3 kilometres.
On June 16, Carl finished an unofficial second in the Gauteng Long Distance Orienteering Champs. He finished the 5.9 kilometre event in 1:28.
The event had to be used as a training exercise because five control points were stolen.
Carl is hoping to compete at the South African Orienteering Champs, which will be held in Howick, on October 4 and 5.
He represents the Rand Athletic Club Orienteers (RACO) and participates for the school in the Schools League.
