Golfing clinic held for women

A morning of golf was enjoyed by a number of Diners Club members

The Diners Club Ladies held a golf clinic at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf course on Tuesday, May 27.

A morning of golf was enjoyed by a number of Diners Club members, who took some time out to perfect their swings with coaching from professionals Greg Jacobs, Martin Briede and Ryan Flockhart of the Professional Golf Association (PGA), as well as Lynette Pretorius.

Diners Club Head of Marketing, Lee-Ann Shepherd, an aspiring golfer herself, said the mornings of golf coaching offers members an opportunity to brush up their skills while networking with like-minded women.

“As more and more women break through glass ceilings in the business world, many of them are heading to the golf course to take advantage of networking opportunities,” said Shepherd.

She said it was common knowledge that many business deals are sealed over a game of golf and it was encouraging to see more women taking up the sport to extend their business networks.

“Of course, it is also a great social game and it is mentally and physically challenging,” said Sheperd.

Hester Hahn, the Diners Club marketing projects and events manager said, “The Diners Club Ladies Golf Clinics are proving to be extremely popular and several morning training sessions are now scheduled throughout the year. We are fortunate to work in conjunction with the PGA, which results in top quality coaching by the association’s professional golfers. Taking part in ladies golf clinics allows women to feel more confident about joining golf clubs, traditionally more of a male domain, and many of the women who have participated in our morning sessions have gone on to join clubs near their homes.”
