Help the SAPS by reporting crimes

Members of the community are urged to report all crimes.

This will help the SAPS analyse the modus operandi on how, when and who is committing these crimes.

This was stated by Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, following statements from members of the community that they are concerned about crimes taking place in their suburbs.

A member of the community, who did not want his name published, recently said that a Terrace Road resident, in Judith’s Paarl, was hijacked.

According to the resident, there were several armed robberies in the same area over the past two months. These crimes were not, however, reported to the SAPS.

The ward 66 councillor, Clr Carlos da Rocha, was informed by residents about crimes taking place in Terrace Road, especially at the corner of Lang Street.

“Crime in this area is a problem and we, the residents and I, are concerned. There have also been a number of crimes not reported to the SAPS. It has come to my attention that there have been a number of burglaries at residential properties in this area, as well as along North Avenue. I have reported my concerns to the Jeppe SAPS and I am awaiting feedback,” he said.

He said he also does not see much patrolling by the Jeppe SAPS in his ward.

W/O Munyai said the Jeppe SAPS patrols the precinct.

“We patrol the precinct on a daily basis and throughout shifts. We post two or three vehicles in each sector.

“Residents must be more vigilant and proactive in preventing crime,” he said.

He said crimes such as theft out of motor vehicles and residential burglaries have increased in recent weeks. Bez Valley and Judith’s Paarl have seen an increase in residential burglaries.

He said crimes according to information the SAPS has, has not increased in the Terrace Road and Lang Street area.

He said Jeppestown and Doornfontein are hotspots for armed robbery cases at the moment.

“We deploy sector vans and members from the support environment. Detectives also assist in patrolling the areas. People are advised not to leave valuable goods such as laptops, cameras, wallets or cellular phones lying visibly inside their vehicles,” he said.
