Rape suspects arrested

A girl (9) was allegedly raped on April 3.

According to Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, the Jeppe SAPS communications officer, the girl from Doornfontein, had apparently disagreed about something with her mother.

“The girl left the house and was seen crossing Rockey Street to a flat. The mother allegedly followed her but could not find her,” said W/O Munyai.

The woman went to the police station and reported her daughter as missing.

“When she returned home her daughter was there. She asked her daughter where she had been and the girl said she was at a friend’s place. The mother went to the friend and was told her daughter had not been there,” said W/O Munyai.

The mother took the girl to the hospital where it was confirmed that she had been raped.

“A case was opened and a suspect was arrested,” said W/O Munyai.

In a separate incident, another man was arrested in connection with a rape in Doornfontein the following day.

W/O Munyai said a woman was walking with a person, who had left a tavern, in Beit Street.

“The suspect started acting strangely and allegedly pushed the victim to the ground. He then allegedly raped the woman,” said W/O Munyai.

The man also allegedly took the woman’s cellular phone and cash.

A case was opened and the man was arrested.
