Two men were sentenced to 36 years imprisonment following the successful investigations of a Cleveland SAPS detective.

Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a man alleged he was approached by two criminals at the corner of Jules and Monmouth streets, in Malvern, on January 8, 2012.

“The suspects noticed the victim had a firearm and they overpowered him, disarmed him and shot him in the stomach.

“The community members called the police to the scene immediately and two men, aged 35 and 37, were arrested and detained at the Cleveland SAPS,” said Const Mashakane.

The men were sentenced on February 20 to 15 years imprisonment for robbery, five years for attempted murder, 15 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and 18 months for the possession of ammunition.
