Stolen vehicle recovered

The Cleveland SAPS arrested three men for the possession of a stolen vehicle in Kensington on Wednesday.

Police officers noticed a Netstar helicopter circling Malvern. They enquired about its presence and found out the crew in the helicopter were searching for a Kia bakkie, which was stolen in Primrose.

The bakkie was later found in St Amant Street. When the three suspects saw the police officers approaching, they fled in a silver Volkswagen Polo.

A chase ensued and the suspects were cornered at the Highland Road and Marathon Street intersection in Kensington. They were arrested and detained at the Cleveland SAPS.

Colonel Bongani Dlamini, the Cleveland SAPS station commander, said the Polo had a police sticker on the windscreen.

“We are investigating if the suspects are involved in other cases, as the suspects may have posed as police officers,” he said.

He added that police officers do not use the sticker which was found on the vehicle. According to Warrant Officer Marx Crouse, from the Cleveland SAPS, it is believed the stickers were used for parking approval during the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup.
