Jeppe SAPS clamps down on drug dealers

Jeppe SAPS arrested over 50 people involved in drug-related crimes during July.

People were arrested for dealing in, and being in possession of, drugs.

Brigadier Govindsamy Mariemuthoo, Jeppe SAPS station commander, said he takes these crimes seriously and described July as a successful month.

“I urge people to provide us with information so we can take further action and make more arrests. I want to tackle the drug problem in the precinct and want to arrest more of the people who are bringing the drugs in,” said Brig Mariemuthoo.

The Jeppe Community Police Forum (JCPF) commended the police officers for the arrests made.

Some of the arrests made by Jeppe SAPS include that of two Nigerian men in Jeppestown, for dealing drugs on July 18.

Police officers who went to a flat found a man in possession of bags of powder believed to be drugs, 14 cellular phones and R102 670 cash.

The following day another man was arrested for dealing in dagga in Doornfontein.

A 42-year-old man was also arrested for dealing in dagga on July 9.

Police officers arrested another man for the possession of dagga. He took the police officers to a dealer in Bez Valley. The man was found with dagga worth R10 000 and a scale believed to weigh the dagga. He offered the police officers R1 400. He was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga and attempting to bribe police officers.

The CPF, youth desk and community street patrollers are planning a number of initiatives to create awareness about drug abuse and the impact it has on people.

The Jeppe CPF urged residents to support LeadSA’s drug-watch programme. People can report any drug-related crime anonymously to 32211 or www.crimeline.co.za
