How to lodge a complaint against EMPD

"The complainant must be prepared to make a statement."

To assist community members EMPD detailed the correct steps to follow when lodging a complaint against the department.

“Members of the community, who wish to lodge a complaint about the EMPD or metro police officers conduct, can do so,” EMPD spokesperson acting Chief Superintendent, Kobeli Mokheseng said.

  • To lodge a complaint:
    Phone the anti-corruption hotline of the City of Ekurhuleni 0800 102201. Alternatively, dial 112 from a cell phone and request the SAPS anti-corruption unit, or phone the 10111 number.
  • On weekdays plaintiffs can visit their nearest EMPD precinct between 8am and 3.30 pm.
    The plaintiff can request to speak to a precinct commander, a deputy commander or a senior officer in charge to communicate their concerns.
  • Visit EMPD’s head office in Kempton Park, on the corner of Long Street and Margaret Avenue, during the week.
    Plaintiffs must request assistance from the Internal Affairs/Integrity and Standards Unit.

“The complainant should be prepared to provide a statement, indicating what transpired.”

Mokheseng said the internal affairs team will investigate the matter. “The investigation will include a statement from the accused officer.”

Depending on the outcome of the investigation a date will be set for a hearing.
