They were taken to Cleveland Police Station where a case of child abandonment was opened.

Cleveland SAPS spokesperson Capt Johan Jordaan said a case of child abandonment was opened after the children were found wrapped in towels by officers on patrol.

He said Child Welfare SA – Edenvale and Bedfordview social worker Jaimie Penny was called for assistance.

“The twins were presumed to be premature and about three days old,” said Jordaan.

It is not known who the mother is.

Lelanie le Roux, founder of Tree of Hope said the twins are being cared for by one of the organisations safe care mothers.

Cleveland SAPS were phenomenal, they assisted these children and showed their dedication for helping others,” said le Roux.

She said the support for the two boys has been good and they are being taken care of.

“The community rallied behind them and I think they are set for now,”

“They do grow up so if anyone is thinking of making donations like clothes or nappies they must think of the children when they are three or six months old.”

Donations can be dropped 24 Sixth Avenue.
