CoE establishes youth empowerment centre

This centre, which provides for all financial and non-financial youth-related services, is located at the Old Boksburg Law Court.

The establishment of the Ekurhuleni Youth Empowerment Centre was described as one of the greatest highlights of this year for the City of Ekurhuleni.

Executive mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina made this description at the final sitting of the City of Ekurhuleni’s council on November 28 at Germiston Council Chambers.

This centre, which provides for all financial and non-financial youth-related services, is located at the Old Boksburg Law Court, a national heritage site which was re-purposed.

“This centre enabled the establishment of the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) satellite office, with administrators based at the centre,” said Masina.

NSFAS provides bursaries to youth in Ekurhuleni and other parts of the country who apply for and are approved.

“The NSFAS bursary is to be part of the Ekurhuleni community schemes bursary to ensure that the City has an integrated bursary framework,” said Masina.

He highlighted that the latest in-take of applications for the Community Bursary was recently concluded.

“We are now in the process of allocating bursaries to eligible students who will be pursuing various critical qualifications in higher learning institutions across the country.”
