BREAKING NEWS: Man arrested in Dowerglen for possession of explosives

The vehicle was located in Edenvale through the use of license plate recognition cameras.

A 35-year-old man was arrested in Dowerglen this afternoon after he was found in possession of explosives.

The Malawian national was arrested earlier today after several explosives were found in a grey Land Rover believed to be his.

Ekurhuleni North SAPS Cluster spokesperson Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso said the vehicle was tracked to Edenvale by a warrant officer from Plettenburg Bay.

Police believe the vehicle was used to commit two crimes in the Western Cape earlier this year.

“In the most recent crime, a September business robbery, R5 million was taken, said Tsotsotso.

She said the vehicle was located in Edenvale through the use of license plate recognition cameras.

“It was traced to a Dickie Fritz Avenue property where it was identified.”

“The Plettenburg Bay officer received backup from Edenvale SAPS and proceeded to search the property after producing a search warrant.”

Tsotsotso said a woman at the property told officers the suspect was not there but he was later found.

“Police searched the property and found explosives in the vehicle,” said Tsotsotso

The suspect, arrested on charges of being in possession of explosives, was detained at Edenvale SAPS.
