Help support the NEWS and Karaglen SuperSpar’s collection drive this Mandela Day

The partnership aims to help animals and people in need by collecting donations of food.

In celebration of Mandela Day and Month, the Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS teamed up with Karaglen SuperSpar and Karaglen Shopping Centre to help two community organisations in dire need.

Those wanting to still donate items for the Edenvale SPCA and Khanyisa Soup Kitchen can drop donations off at the entrance to Karaglen SuperSpar during shopping hours.

Angel Mdlalose, manager of the Karaglen SuperSpar, who has assisted the NEWS in previous Mandela Day projects, said she is very excited about the initiative.

“Karaglen prides itself on having a strong sense of community. We could think of no better organisations in the area to benefit from the kindness of the community than the SPCA and Khanyisa,” she said.

Angel added that the tough economic times had placed strain on both organisations.

“It’s important that everyone gets involved to help organisations in our community. Without support, these organisations would not be able to do the valuable work they do,” said Mdlalose.

The NEWS will join Karaglen Super Spar on Mandela Day to deliver the donations to the two organisations.

The donations for Khanyisa will be used by the soup kitchen to feed over 100 desperate and destitute people every day, five days a week.

The donation drive gives community members the opportunity to give back on Mandela Day.
