BREAKING NEWS: Hostage negotiators called to assist after man opens fire on security officers in Edenvale

Mashile said SAPS hostage negotiators were called in after the man locked himself in the property.

A man in his 50s has been arrested by members of the SAPS after he opened fire on security personnel earlier this afternoon.

 

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said the man started shooting at security personnel after officers responded to an alarm activation at the property next door.

The incident occurred near the corner of Seventh Street and Twelfth Avenue in Edenvale.

Mashile said SAPS hostage negotiators were called in after the man locked himself in the property.

“Negotiators spoke to the man from the front of the property, maintaining his focus, while officers entered the property from behind and arrested him,” he said.

The man will face charges of attempted murder and discharging a firearm in a residential area.

He is expected to appear in Germiston Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, May 14.
