The owner was informed by her gardener that he had seen some intruders on the property.

She immediately locked herself in her room upstairs and reported this on social media.

There was a quick response by the CPF and several local security companies.

They sealed off the property and surrounding area and the police were informed.

The building is a large multi-level one, with numerous windows and balconies.

It was not known how many criminals were on the property and where they were located.

Security personnel present believed the criminals were likely to be armed.

Capt André de Jager and Sgt Aiden Billings from the Bedfordview Police Station rushed to the scene.

They had left in such a hurry they did not even have time to put on their bulletproof vests.

On arrival, without waiting for reinforcements, they decided to go down the east side of the property in order to clear the outside garden areas before entering the building.

Without hesitation, with pistols drawn, they moved forward tactically as a team and proceeded towards the north side of the property.

They then turned and moved in a westerly direction through the garden area, across the width of the property.

At this point, they were exposed in the open, without covering fire support from security reaction officers.

De Jager and Billings then observed some criminals hiding behind trees and bushes in the north western corner of the property and rushed forward, subduing three criminals and pulling them out from their hiding place into the open, where they were arrested.

The officers then went on to search the whole building and free a very relieved owner from the confines of her room.
