First league match for BCC Hockey Club to begin end of March

Baillie said first league matches will begin on March 31.

Bedfordview Country Club (BCC) Hockey Club is welcoming all hockey players to join their hockey family.

“We have recruited some very experienced coaches to guide us for the next few seasons. Their experience includes coaching in the Netherlands, UK, and at national and provincial level in South Africa,” said Michael Baillie, BCC Hockey Club chairperson.

Baillie said first league matches will begin on March 31.

He said practices take place on Sundays from 9am to 11pm and on Thursday from 6.30pm to 8.30pm at the St Benedict’s College Astro.

“We will be starting our selection process for the different teams then, so we encourage all prospective players to start coming down or make contact with us as soon as possible,” said Baillie.

The club’s first women team plays in the Southern Gauteng’s Women’s First League and the second and third team play in the Southern Gauteng’s Women’s Third League.

Baillie added the men’s first team plays on the Southern Gauteng’s Men’s Second League and the second team on Southern Gauteng’s Men’s Fourth League.

He said the season fees include coaching, SAHA affiliation, Southern Gauteng Hockey affiliation, BCC affiliation, Astro time and umpiring costs.

“We traditionally see a massive improvement in skill and tactical awareness in learners who play club hockey, which translates to better achievements at school level.

“All learners still fall under the province that their school falls under. This means that if the school is registered for Easterns, the learner in question will retain their Eastern Gauteng Hockey Association affiliation,” said Baillie.
