Kyle receives highest Scouts award

Kyle achieved all this while in his matric year at school.

Kyle Botes of the 1st Bedfordview Scout Troop was recently awarded his Springbok Scout Award, the highest award that a Scout can obtain.

Only one percent of Scouts ever achieve this accolade, and last year only 18 Scouts in Gauteng received this award, two of which hailed from Bedfordview.

As part of his award, Kyle organised a troop camp in the Magaliesberg Mountains, undertook a 30km hike, organised and ran a 40-hour community service project at the Strathyre Home for Girls in Bruma and built a bridge from nothing but rope and poles.

He also attended an eight-day survival camp, completed training in advanced navigation and first aid and organised numerous patrol activities.

Kyle achieved all this while in his matric year at school.

His activities helped Kudu Patrol, one of only two patrols in Gauteng to obtain a gold star award and contributed to 1st Bedfordview Scout Troop recently being named the best Scout troop in the Northrand District.

He will be continuing his Scouting as a member of the Bedfordview Rover Crew.
