Gallery: Schools battle at Saheti Rugby Sevens Netball Festival

The open teams competed for four trophies, including championship, shield, bowl and plate.

Saheti School hosted its 25th annual Rugby Sevens and Netball Festival on March 2.

The festival has become a traditional winter sports season-opener for schools in Johannesburg.

This year the festival featured 24 rugby teams (12 u-16 and 12 open teams) and 28 netball teams (12 u-16 and 16 open opens) comprising 570 boys and girls.

Schools that took part included Curro Thatchfield, Dainfern College, Dominican Convent School, Greenside High School, Highlands North Boys’ High School, Holy Rosary School, Jeppe High School for Girls, Mapetla High School, Mondeor High School, Queens High School, Reddam House Bedfordview, Reddam House Helderfontein, Redhill School, Sandringham High School, Sir John Adamson High School, St John’s College, Wendywood High School and Saheti.

The Panthers Rugby Club, JW Sports Academy and Soweto Rugby Club also participated.

The open teams competed for four trophies, including championship, shield, bowl and plate.

The results of the festival are:

Rugby u-16 finals:

Championship: Saheti 24 – Reddam Bedfordview 19

Division 2: Soweto Rugby Club 7 – Highlands North 22

Division 3: Curro Thatchfield 5 – Mondeor High 24

Third place play-off championship: Queens High 53 – Dainfern College 0

Rugby open finals:

Championship: St John’s College 45 – Dainfern College 7

Division 2: Queens High 33 – Highlands North 0

Division 3: Panthers Rugby Club 10 – Curro Thatchfield 5

Third place play-off championship: Mondeor High 14 – Reddam Bedfordview 17

Netball u-16 finals:

Championship: Reddam Bedfordview 4 – Holy Rosary 7

Division 2: Curro Thatchfield 2 – Wendywood High 10

Division 3: Mapetla High 9 – Reddam Helderfontein 4

Third place play-off championship: Saheti 5 – Queens High 6

Netball open finals:

Championship: Saheti 8 – Dominican Convent 7

Division 2: JW Sports Academy 4 – Holy Rosary 13

Division 3: Queens High 2 – Wendywood 3

Division 4: Reddam Helderfontein 9 – Curro Thatchfield 2.
