Humphreys urges community to report any potholes in Bedfordview

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said potholes have become a crisis in Bedfordview.

Bedfordview motorists have expressed concern about vehicles being damaged due to potholes on Van Buuren Road in Bedfordview.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys said there are two massive potholes in the dip near Oriel Park going towards Van Buuren.

She said potholes have become a crisis.

“Roads department is terribly under-resourced and slow at the best of times. They are completely overwhelmed with the state of the roads now since the rains,” said Humphreys.

She added residents should report any pothole in their area and send her the location as well as the reference number.

“There are many and I am sure I have missed a few,” said Humphreys.

Humphreys urged the community to report the potholes to Ekurhuleni.

CoE spokesperson Themba Gadebe agreed that potholes in Bedfordview are due to the recent rains.

“Consequently, the tar patching contractor and the resurfacing contractor have been dispatched to the area to fix them,” said Gadebe.

He said potholes on major roads are fixed within 24 hours and on minor roads within 48 hours of being reported.

Gadebe said customers may report through the call centre at 0860 543 000, or alternatively use My Ekurhuleni App.

He added that the app is also compatible with feature phones (non-smartphones), and customers may use those devices to report via a USSD (*134*30263) option.
