#GoodNews – Healthy baby boy born in fire engine at Edenvale Fire Station

A healthy baby boy was born in a fire engine at Edenvale Fire Station after emergency personnel attended  to a call from the community.

Spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni’s department of emergency management services, William Ntladi, said the child was born on February 5.

He said while on route to the station from another scene the firefighters were made aware of a patient in active labour on the side of the road.

The patient in her mid-twenties was found on the corner of Van Riebeeck Avenue and Seventh Street.

“While conducting their inspection of the patient It was found that her water had already broke,” said Ntladi.

“The patient was rushed, in the fire engine, back to the station and away from public eyes, so the necessary medical treatment could be provided.”

Ntladi said while at the entrance of the fire station, the child was born in the vehicle before it had stopped.

Th healthy baby boy was born in the fire engine as it was returning to Edenvale Fire Station.

Once the baby was born emergency personnel provided medical care to the mother and child before they were taken to Edenvale Hospital by ambulance for further medical assistance.
