Sacred Heart College beams with pride

Sacred Heart celebrate a 100 per cent matric pass rate for 2018.

Sacred Heart College could not have asked for a better start to the year after the revelation that the class of 2018 had bossed the Independent Examination Board (IEB) exams with a 100 per cent pass rate.

This went with a 98 per cent bachelor’s degree pass recorded at the school, seven per cent above the national IEB average.

The class of 2018 achieved a mark above 60 in 79 per cent of their subjects, the highest in 21 years and five per cent above the national IEB average.

Sacred Heart’s matrics recorded a mathematics average of 71.2 per cent compared to the IEB average of 64.6 per cent. To add to the achievements, among others, 23 per cent of matric learners at the school undertook information technology, compared to 8.5 per cent in the IEB and achieved an average of 75.1 per cent, six per cent higher than national IEB average.

“Our matric learners have the experience of transformative conversations brought about by our diversity and have learned to use technology creatively and responsibly,” said Head of Sacred Heart College, Colin Northmore.

“They have been taught to think critically and have been involved in social justice activities and in many cases have initiated these activities independently. We are delighted that our matrics have done so well but are confident that they have learned to see the world with a heart that knows no bounds and this heart will take them anywhere.”
