100 per cent pass rate for Holy Rosary

In addition to maintaining a 100 per cent pass rate, numerous learners from the school received distinctions for their hard work.

Holy Rosary High School has congratulated its 2018 matric learners for successfully completing their schooling career and achieving a 100 per cent pass rate.

In addition to maintaining a 100 per cent pass rate, numerous learners from the school received distinctions for their hard work, with 12 learners doing exceptionally well and received several distinctions for their academic talents. They include:

• Lara Irons -10 distinctions for Afrikaans, English, history, life orientation, mathematics, physical sciences, life sciences, visual arts, advanced programme mathematics and advanced programme English.

Lara was awarded the schools tile of Dux Scholarum, is in the top one per cent in her subjects and in the top five per cent for IEB students who took six or more subjects.

This year Lara hopes to study medicine.

Lara Irons -10 distinctions for Afrikaans, English, history, life orientation, mathematics, physical science, life sciences, visual arts, advanced programme mathematics and advanced programme English.

•Theresia Kitele – seven distinctions for English, history, information technology, life orientation, mathematics, physical sciences and advanced programme mathematics.

Theresia achieved the highest mark for IT at Holy Rosary with 91 per cent, 90 per cent for physical sciences and 95 per cent for mathematics.

She and Chiara Hoskin were jointly awarded Senior Study Trophy for both achieving the second highest marks overall.

Theresia Kitele – seven distinctions for English, history, information technology, life orientation, mathematics, physical science and advanced programme mathematics.

•Chiara Hoskin – seven distinctions for English, Afrikaans, life orientation, life sciences, mathematics, physical sciences and visual arts.

She received a trophy for having the highest practical marks for life sciences in matric year and jointly received a trophy with fellow learner, Federica Giuricich, for religious education.

•Simone Jeffrey – seven distinctions for English, Afrikaans, life orientation, history, accounting, mathematics and physical sciences.

Simone received a trophy for having the highest accounting mark and received the Sportsmanship and Loyalty trophy.

•Melissa Rattray – seven distinctions for English, Afrikaans, geography, life orientation, life sciences, physical sciences and mathematics.

•Chrislin Nieuwoudt – six distinctions for English, Afrikaans, information technology, life orientation, life sciences, physical sciences.

She was the school’s head girl, a national swimmer and lifesaver and has been awarded a full scholarship for swimming and academics from Augustana University in the USA where she will study medicine.

She received full colours for provincial hockey, an award for dedication to drama, received the school’s sportswoman award and was deputy head of drama.

She received trophies for highest mark and distinction in consumer studies and for service to the community.

•Wendy Sorour – four distinctions for English, geography, life orientation and mathematical literacy.

She was awarded her honours blazer in matric for academics, music and service, and is also a Springbok Scout.

Wendy received trophies for having the highest mark in music in her matric year and for highest mark and distinction in Geography.

The Principal’s award was presented to her for humility, sincerity, dedication, servant leadership, dedication to school, empathy for others, consistent loyalty and making a positive contribution to society.
