Enjoy Christmas cheer with the SPCA

"We love the updates, we love getting to know our supporters and it gives us the chance to show the new residents that we are a great SPCA with heaps of passion for animals."

With the year winding down and Christmas around the corner, community members can look forward to some Christmas cheer at Edenvale SPCA’s annual fête.

The fête will be held on November 15 at Horwood’s Farm from 9am.

This will be the fifth annual fête hosted by the SPCA.

“Usually we have our fête in October to prepare for the Christmas season so people can purchase gifts for the family and pets, as well as to bring the community together along with their local SPCA.

“The event is well supported by animal lovers. People get to bring their pets out for the day, show off their rescues, mingle and chat about where they adopted their pets from, as well as buy food and enjoy a community get-together,” said Jade.

“The people who visit our stalls come to buy food, hampers for their pets and to introduce themselves or bring an adopted animal for a visit.”

Jade said it is always amazing to be reminded of an animal adopted five years ago and how it has brought happiness and love to its new family.

“We love the updates, we love getting to know our supporters and it gives us the chance to show the new residents that we are a great SPCA with heaps of passion for animals.”

“Some people don’t even know about us so this fête definitely helps put us on the map for the people who haven’t had the chance to hear about us or visit us.”

Jade said the funds raised at the fête will be used to keep the SPCA’s doors open.

It will allow the society to continue to do rescues, help community members in need, pay vet bills, pay for petrol, water and lights as well as maintain its premises.

“I believe times are hard and it’s not getting better, just this past month we helped six families with food for their pets,” said Jade.

Food was donated to people who have lost their jobs, going through divorces and living in tents in people’s backyards due to eviction.

“We are battling and fearful of what the future may bring, not everyone is able to donate food and money and we rely on the public for assistance.”

Jade said Black Friday was the first time in more than 10 years that SPCA had to purchase food for their kittens.

“The public is really trying to help us but I see that economic constraints are affecting them as much as it affects us.”
