Bedfordview ward councillor gives thanks for 2018

“Wishing one and all a safe, peaceful and joyful holiday season,” said Humphreys.

Ward 20 Clr Jill Humphreys had a busy 2018, uplifting and upholding the community of Bedfordview, and is humbled and grateful for all the people who helped make it a better community.

“As the year draws to a close, my heart is full of gratitude to the many people who, like me, have had quite a tough year,” said Humphreys.

Humphreys thanked the Department of Water and Sanitation.

“The horror of sewage in the road or bubbling up in homes and gardens is always an emergency requiring an instant response.

“These brave and determined souls spent many nights, waist deep in muddy water or sewage.

“Thanks to chief engineer Hendrik Botha for always answering his phone 24/7, as well as the team in the surrounding areas.”

Humphreys thanked the roads and stormwater depot managers, Tebogo Nkabinde, Eugene van Vuuren and Elias Seakamela, for all their efforts.

“Nothing is ever too much trouble for Carlos Carrjola from the energy department. Frequently working through the night when responding to power outages. This dedicated individual does all in his ‘power’ to keep the lights on,” said Humphreys.

She said Michael Swanepoel, Hendrick Raedani, Patrick Wait and Marius Jooste are excellent engineers and technicians who are constantly repairing cable faults.

Humphreys is thankful for the assistance of Samke Ncgobo in city planning and Lefonyana (Petros) Seleke of the parks department for their passion and knowledge.

“Frederick Ngoma of the waste department makes sure our refuse is timeously and regularly removed. Thank you Freddy,” said Humphreys.

“EMPD Supt Grant Glen is our very own Bedfordview Superman. His passionate determination to rid our streets of criminals and to uphold our by-laws has to be appreciated in the context of our damaged and ravaged society,” said Humphreys.

Humphrey thanked the policemen and women, emergency services, firemen, ambulance drivers and medics and said they are essential service heroes and heroines.

“Our Ward 20 committee meets every month to discuss strategies and share information about progress with (or lack of) municipal projects and activities in our ward. I’m so very grateful to these community members for sacrificing their time and efforts to do monthly report-backs in an effort to make our town the best it can be.”

“Our committee administrator/coordinator, Dinah Dinalane, keeps us timeously minuted and reminded. Thank you Dinah,” said Humphreys

She also thanked the Bedfordview Community Policing Forum, led by chairperson Gavin Henry.

“Most importantly I need to thank our residents. Our generous, caring, frightened, frustrated, patient, forgiving and dedicated Bedfordview community,” said Humphreys.

She thanked the community for paying their rates and taxes in spite of the ongoing sewage, potholes, leaks and billboard concerns.

“I wish one and all a safe, peaceful and joyful holiday season,” said Humphreys.
