Five arrested for speeding

Kgasago said the motorists were arrested and charged at Bedfordview SAPS for reckless and negligent driving.

Recently five motorists were apprehended by the EMPD High Speed Unit on the stretch of the N3 northbound between Gillooly’s Interchange and the Linksfield turnoff.

“A 36-year-old male, driving a VW Polo Vivo was caught doing 187km/h in a 120km/h zone.

He claimed he was rushing to the Alexandra cemetery, “said EMPD spokesperson William Kgasago.

Kgasago said another speedster driving a Honda motorcycle did 177km/h on the same road.

He said the driver said he was testing the motorcycle after its extended period of inactivity.

“The remainder of the speedsters were arrested in sedans after registering speeds of 178, 166 and 162km/h,” said Kgasago.

Kgasago said the motorists were arrested and charged at Bedfordview SAPS for reckless and negligent driving.

“They were released after posting bail of R1 000 each and are expected to appear in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court soon, “ said Kgasago.
