Cupcakes of Hope raises the bar

She said that at Eastgate they managed to sell over 2500 cupcakes for the cause.

Cupcakes of Hope improved on the amount raised last year for the fight against children suffering from cancer by hitting the R2 065 807 with this year’s Cupcakes for Cansa.

Lori-Anne Hill from Cupcake for Cansa Foundation said the event was held simultaneously on September 29 at 79 malls across SA, including Eastgate Shopping Centre, and it involved thousands of bakers.“Thank you to every single person who baked, decorated, volunteered and donated their time and energy towards making National Cupcake Day truly the sweetest day of the year,” said Hill.

The event at Eastgate managed to sell over 2 500 cupcakes.

“We will be able to bless so many more children in 2018 and 2019,” said founder of Cupcakes of Hope, Sandy Cipriano.

Hill said the event was community driven, relying on the commitment of bakers from as young as three years old to 90 years of age as they came together to “bake a difference in the lives of little cancer patients”.

Bakers of the cupcakes were from the age of three years old to 90 years of age.

“Volunteers started making toppers from about two months ago to make sure all our cupcakes were beautiful,” Hill.

She said the Cutty Sharks Girl Scouts also helped to make cupcakes and sell on the day with Krispy Kreme and Milky Lane at Eastgate also contributing to the cause.

Hill said the event had one of the biggest cupcake stands, in the form of a cupcake that stood at 1.5 metres high.

The cupcakes were in celebration of National Cupcake Day.

“Eastgate shoppers were treated to a special appearance by the Puma flying lions, which is a 4 Harvard aircraft, led by legendary Captain Scully Levin,” said Hill.
