Sisters reunited on special occasion

A history teacher at Sandringham High for most of her career, Wendy is much loved in the community and has touched many lives, including Trevor Noah, who mentioned her fondly when interviewed on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon.

Tears flowed when four sisters were reunited on October 5.

Thembalami Care Centre resident Wendy Gold’s 80th birthday was made unforgettable when her three sisters drove up from Kwa-Zulu Natal to spend the day with her.

Also, there was Wendy’s daughter Carolyn Hunter.

An array of eats was brought by the family to be enjoyed with the other residents on the Ibis wing where Wendy lives.

When asked about teachers he remembers most fondly, Trevor named Wendy.

“Our history teacher, Mrs Gold, was phenomenal. I love history today because of her because she made it a real thing.”

Another person who considers herself lucky to have had Mrs Gold as a teacher is Lara Hurwitz, Thembalami’s current social worker.
