Serial hijacker allegedly linked to Krejcir in conspiracy to murder Paul O’Sullivan gets 25 years in prison

On January 9, 2014 Owen Serero was re-arrested for his alleged involvement with Radovan Krejcir, in a conspiracy to murder Paul O’Sullivan.

A serial hijacker with alleged connections to Radovan Krejcir was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Thursday.

The conviction of Owen Serero was welcomed by National Police Commissioner General Khehla Sitole.

37-year-old Serero’s modus operandi included tracing new BMW vehicles and hijacking them either when they were delivered or picked up from various BMW dealerships.

The crimes were committed between 2011 and 2014.

During this time Serero was arrested but managed to escape custody while appearing in Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.

On January 9, 2014 he was re-arrested for his alleged involvement with Radovan Krejcir, in a conspiracy to murder Paul O’Sullivan.

Serero will be back in court on October 17 where he will face further charges.

On Thursday, the Johannesburg Regional Court sentenced Serero on four counts:

  • Robbery with aggravating circumstances: 15 years imprisonment.
  • Kidnapping: 5 years imprisonment.
  • Robbery with aggravating circumstances: 15 years imprisonment.
  • Robbery with aggravating circumstances: 15 years imprisonment.

The court ordered that some of his sentences run concurrently and he will, therefore, serve an effective 25 years imprisonment.
